Katharine McCormick
August 27, 1875 - December 28, 1967
American suffragist, activist and philanthropist who funded most of the research necessary to develop the birth control pill. She was a graduate of MIT at a time women were not particularly welcomed and smuggled over 1,000 diaphragms from Europe to NYC to support Margaret Sanger’s Clinical Research Bureau (which later became Planned Parenthood).
