Tammy Duckworth

March 12, 1968 – present

American politician and retired army national guard lieutenant colonel, she was born in Thailand and raised in Hawaii. When her helicopter was hit by a grenade, she lost both legs--the first female double amputee from the war. Despite her injuries, Duckworth continued to serve in the national guard, was elected to congress, and has been a fierce advocate for veterans and women’s rights.
